Construction and Operation
Enidine's HTD features a completely sealed design that requires no oil
refill, no maintenance, and longer service life. The improved seal design
also eliminates environmental contamination and clean-up problems associated
with oil leakage from conventional retarding systems. The lightweight
HTD is designed to fit into existing retarder brackets for easy replacement
or retrofit. The HTD includes specially designed mounting hardware as
a complete kit for easy installation.

Standard
Crankshaft Vibration Dampers
The Enidine Viscous Torsional Vibration Damper is standard equipment
on GE locomotive engines and is necessary to prevent premature crankshaft
failure and other costly damage.
The viscous damper is a simple design consisting of a free rotating
inertia ring surrounded by a high-viscosity silicone fluid enclosed
in a leakproof housing. When crankshaft vibrations occur, the outer
housing of the damper reacts with the crank, twisting as it rotates.
The inertia ring moves out of phase with the housing. This relative
motion between the inertia ring and the housing causes the inertia ring
to shear the silicone fluid, effectively reducing vibration.
